In-Home Speech Therapy
Speech-Language Pathologists to Improve Your Communicating & Swallowing AbilitiesSpeech therapy is more than a tool to help improve your ability to speak. It not only helps patients with the mechanics of speech and helps them overcome communication deficits, but also helps patients who have eating and swallowing difficulties. Per the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) defines speech therapists, also called speech-language pathologist, as follows: “Speech-language pathologists, or SLPs, work with people who have problems with speech, language, thinking, and swallowing.“
The benefits of speech therapy at home include convenience, better therapist rapport, and family education and participation in discussing goals and progress in real time. Speech therapy is worth it, especially if you have recently suffered a stroke and need help relearning how to communicate, learn better mechanics of speech, and learn how to swallow. Your SLP will begin your treatment with an evaluation of your skills. SLPs have the experience to improve your cognitive, communication, and/or swallowing disorders. It may be medically necessary to prevent, identify, evaluate, and treat a variety of cognitive-communication disorders.
Seniors who are unable to communicate can become very frustrated. They may not be able to articulate it, or their speech capabilities may be impaired. Speech therapy can identify their problem areas with the cognitive aspects of communication in addition to the mechanics of speech. We offer customized, one-on-one speech therapy that meets the needs of elderly individuals.
